リビング・ブックス is the Japanese version of Living Books that was produced and released by Interprog in 1995/1996.

NOTE: This list only includes games that were dubbed in Japanese for their Japan releases. It does not include any games that BNN/Interprog simply imported from their American releases from the United States.

Trivia[]

  • In the United States, Just Grandma and Me is the only Living Books game to feature the Japanese language (in V1 only).
  • English and Spanish language versions are also featured in the Japanese versions of the games.
  • Most games except Just Grandma and Me use the Mohawk engine.
  • The Japanese releases of each game retain the original American Living Books intro and credits sequences from the American releases, with all the text left in English and unaltered, as English is one of the second most-commonly spoken languages in Japan.
    • As the intro and credits were both unaltered, none of the Japanese cast was listed in the credits, so the identities of the voice actors remain a mystery (not counting the Japanese dub of Just Grandma and Me for the most part).
  • The Japanese release of Just Grandma and Me uses V1.0, meaning it retains everything untouched as is from the American release (due to that release already containing the Japanese dub), even including the early Broderbund's Living Books intro, credits and the Arthur's Teacher Trouble preview (which was also left undubbed). The only edits made in the Japanese release is the opening cover, the main menu, the Options and Quit panels, and the THE END screen being dubbed and localized in Japanese.
    • Additionally, due to everything being hauled over from the American release, the sounds still get cut off as usual.
  • All games except Just Grandma and Me have a Living Books Sampler integrated into the programs.
  • Despite only a select number of titles being dubbed in Japanese, other Living Books games from 1992-1995 such as Arthur's Teacher Trouble[1], The New Kid on the Block[2] and Dr. Seuss' ABC[3] were also imported from America to teach English (and Spanish in the case of most titles) to Japanese speakers, due to English being a second commonly spoken language in Japan. This is why the Living Books Sampler as featured in the Japanese-dubbed games retains English versions of the demos.
    • Despite this, none of the Arthur books were translated into Japanese (neither the cartoon itself was dubbed in said language), possibly because the Arthur franchise is not well known in Japan.
    • As usual, The New Kid on the Block and Dr. Seuss' ABC never had international dubs for obvious reasons.
